Benefits & Perks
Our people are our most important “ingredient.” We not only have to hire the best, but we have to reward, develop, and retain them too.CLICK HERE TO EXPLORE OUR OPEN JOBS
First of all, there’s the free beer.
Every employee (who is 21+) gets two cases of beer every month. Let it be known that great, free beer makes you very popular with your friends and family. Do you need to know more?
We offer competitive salaries with potential for promotions, incentive bonuses, and raises. We benchmark our salaries against the industry, and we review performance annually. We have a strong 401k program with a match, and we offer subsidies for career development and academic advancement. We also offer a discounted stock program (NYSE:SAM) for employees who want to be an “owner” of the company through their purchase of our stock.
Over the years we have honed our medical/dental/life insurance programs to provide excellent coverage and reasonable rates. We have a Benefits & Wellness team that creates interactive online challenges throughout the year to encourage an active, healthy lifestyle. Employees who achieve their health goals in the program can earn gift cards as well as discounts off their health insurance. Our paid time off policy is also an important part of our benefits plan, as a little R&R goes a long way for your health too.
*Note – compensation and benefits coverage is based on individual job role, and may vary depending on whether the individual is an eligible full time or part-time employee.
One of our wholesalers once asked Jim Koch why he invested so much time and money in training his people when ultimately they might leave. Jim replied, “But what if I don’t train them, and they stay?”
When Jim first introduced Samuel Adams, he realized that most of his job was educating servers and drinkers to appreciate better beer. Education continues to be a critically important aspect of our culture, and we feel that we can maintain our leadership position in the industry by educating our employees, customers, and drinkers about what makes our beers special.
Among the post-Orientation courses we offer are:
- • Selling Skills, Negotiations, Group Communication Training, Strategic Selling
- • New Manager Orientations, Developing People, leadership training
- • Various continuing beer education courses
- • Technical training on brewery equipment
- • LEAN techniques, innovation training
- • Employee-led Lunch & Learns
Annual Company Meeting & Awards
One of the most anticipated events each year is our annual company meeting. Our meetings are different from most – they are always fun and typically kickoff with a Boston Lager toast and beer tasting in the morning. The meeting provides the opportunity to bring the entire Sales and Office teams together, whether it is in Boston or another location. In recent years we have gathered in Nashville and Orlando.
We review the state of craft brewing and recap our sales numbers from the year, and we set goals for the coming year and celebrate our successes. We also recognize employees who reach milestones, such as celebrating 5, 10, 15, 20+ years as part of the Boston Beer family.
In addition, we have other awards, like the President’s Award and the People’s Choice Awards where colleagues are nominated by their peers for hard work and successes in various categories like “Innovation Award,” “Teamwork First,” and “Rookie of the Year.”
The Cincinnati & Pennsylvania breweries also have annual meetings each year that follow a similar format, where you can often find our CEO and management team manning the grill and flipping burgers for all brewery employees.
