When Samuel Adams® beer first appeared in 1985, people didn’t think Americans could make great beer. They needed convincing. Just six weeks after the first Samuel Adams® Boston Lager was served in Boston, something happened that convinced them. Jim Koch took his beer to Denver, Colorado and entered it into a competition at the Great American Beer Festival. When people in Boston heard that Samuel Adams Boston Lager® had been voted the "Best Beer In America," it made them sit up and take notice. Their brains finally believed what their taste buds had been telling them. So, we continued to enter competitions, and as our horizons expanded, we found beer award programs all over the world. Today, we are proud to say that Samuel Adams® beer has won more awards and competitions than any beer in history.
